OSBORNE PARKS

Osborne Parks, 84, of 2953 U.S. 13 North, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Joe P. Parks and Adeline Gurley Parks.

Mr. Parks was a retired swine producer in the Hood Swamp Community and had served as a volunteer fireman for the Saulston Fire Department. He was the former owner of the U.S. 117 Truck Stop and was a former co-owner of two moving storage companies. He was a member of Northview Baptist Church, where he served as an elder and trustee. He was a member of the Wayne County Granges and the Wayne County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Parks was past president of the Wayne County Sunday School Association and worked with area 4-H clubs in Wayne County. He was serving on the Board of Directors at WHFL Television Station, serving as chairman for 10 years, and was past mayor pro-tem for the town board of Emerald Isle.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Purvis and the Rev. Steve Gillette officiating. Entombment will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Parks is survived by his wife, Doris Neal Parks; one son, Glenn Parks of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Glenn Todd Parks of Iowa and Kurtis Holliday of Winston-Salem; one great-grandson, Wesley Taylor Parks; five sisters, Mable Osborne of Pinehurst, Virginia Uzzell of Goldsboro, Josephine Webb of Morehead City, Pat Ingram of Wilson, and Betty Moore of Raleigh; and one brother, Sammy Parks of Goldsboro.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Ann Parks, and two brothers, Clifton Earl "Fez" Parks and Carlton Parks.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to the WHFL Television Station, 109 Industry Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; or to the American Cancer Society Wayne County Relay For Life, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.

The family will greet friends following the service at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
