RUSSELL W. FRIEDEL

Chief Master Sgt. (retired U.S. Air Force) Russell William Friedel, 74, of 227 S. Spence Ave., died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Chief Master Sgt. Friedel was born in Sheboygan, Wis., to the late Herbert and Sarah Ann Anderson Friedel. He served in the United States Air Force for over 30 years. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America as Scout Master of Troop 482 in Charleston, S.C.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery with full military honors.

Chief Master Sgt. Friedel is survived by his wife, Irmgard Johanna (Kathy) Schauermann Friedel; his son, Alexander B. Friedel and wife Sandy of Kinston; his daughter, Connie B. Haney and husband Danny of Jonesboro, Ga.; his grandson, Matthew Friedel of Latta, SC; and special family friends, Hannelore Powell of Dudley, Judy D. Cartrette of Goldsboro and Dwayne Moore of Kannapolis. He is also survived by his extended family, Ingeborg Kinkel and Theodor Schauermann, both residing in Germany.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834, or the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 27985, Raleigh, N.C. 27611.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
