DUNN -- Alton Ray King Sr.. 68, of 100 Fairwoods Court, died Monday at his home.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Faison Baptist Church with Eddie Weatherington and the Reverends Paul Rose, Ray Smith and Chester Aycock officiating. Burial will be in the Faison City Cemetery.
Mr. King was a native of Sampson County and was the son of the late William Carl and Lillie Mae McCullen King. He was a security police officer in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and trained security police officers. He served in Japan, France, Germany and Vietnam. He graduated from Sampson Technical Com-munity College with associates degrees in criminal justice and business. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Lumberton, where he had served as a deacon since the age of 26. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and superintendent. He was president of the North Duplin Quarterback Club, a member of Faison Fire & Rescue, head of the Migrant Council, and captain of the Faison Police Department for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Frances R. King of the home; four daughters, Connie Rene´ Yopp of Dunn, Delores Ann Slangal of Dunn, Peggy Davis of Garland and Patricia Yancey of Fayetteville; three sons, Alton Ray King Jr. of Goldsboro, William Albert King of Hilton Head, S.C., and Randell Ray King of the home; three sisters, Bernice Baker of Henderson, Doris Phipps of Faison, Hattie Mae Register of Turkey; one brother, William B. King of Greensboro; and 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton, and other times at 100 Fairwoods Court in Dunn.
Memorial donations may be made to Duke University Medical Center, 512 S. Magnum St., Suite 400, Durham, N.C., 27701-3972. The family asks that contributions be designated for lung transplants.
