Jarvis Clifton "Dick" Gwaltney, 87, of 1007 Eleventh Street, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Alphus McCullen Gwaltney and Frankie Anderson Gwaltney. Mr. Gwaltney was the owner and operator of Gwaltney Trucking Company and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Norman Collins presiding.

Mr. Gwaltney is survived by his wife, Bonnie Mooring Gwaltney; two sons and their wives, Glenn and Kathy Gwaltney of Goldsboro and Kenneth and LuAnn Gwaltney of Pikeville; one sister, Elizabeth Gruyes of Salt Lake City, Utah; and four grandchildren, Kristie Gwaltney, Kensi Gwaltney, Logan Gwaltney, and Kimball Gwaltney.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
