GEORGE DENNING

George Allen Denning, 83, of 2029 Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Eureka Christian Church. The Rev. Frank Purvis, the Rev. Edward Tatum and the Rev. Curtis Tatum will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Denning family cemetery.

Mr. Denning was born in Wayne County to the late Uriah and Dorah Keen Denning. He was a member of Eureka Christian Church, where he served as an elder and was a member of the men’s choir. He was also a member of the Westbrook Grange Choir in Newton Grove and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle T. Denning of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen Sr. and Kay Denning of Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Robert Allen Denning Jr. of Newton Grove, David Wayne Denning of Grantham, Judy Carl D. Wood of Chesapeake Va., and Edna Mae Denning of Grantham; six granchildren; and a very special family friend, Dorothy McKinzey of Grantham.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory, and other times at the home.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be directed to Eureka Christian Church, 2036 Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
