BERNICE HUSSEY

SNOW HILL — Bernice Byrd Hussey, 101, of Britthaven Nursing Home and formerly of Seven Springs, died Saturday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Brough officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park

Mrs. Hussey spent twenty-five years operating Hussey’s Barbecue Restaurant and she was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church. Always active in her community, she was instrumental in bringing Lenoir Community College to Kinston and she worked to bring electricity and water to the rural parts of the county. She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star and helped with many Democratic political campaigns.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Hussey; son, Harold Scott Hussey; and grandson, Harold Leroy Hussey.

Her survivors include a son, Adrian L. Hussey and wife, Donna, of Seven Springs; daughter-in-law, Betsey Hussey Jones of Hubert; six grandchildren, Barrie Elizabeth Brough and husband, Alfred; Bernice Marie Ginn and husband, Chad; John Edward Hussey and wife, Laura; John Ryan Hussey and wife, Jean; Brian Thomas Hussey and wife, Johni; Benjamin Scott Hussey and wife, Andrea; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Hussey, 7994 Highway 55 West, Seven Springs.
