WILLIAM P. EDWARDS

RALEIGH -- William P. (Bill) Edwards of 7301 Capital Boulevard went to be with his Lord on Friday after a brief illness.

Born on March 19, 1934 to the late Otha Crowell Edwards and Irene Parker Edwards, Bill was a life-long resident of Raleigh. After graduating from Fishburne Military Academy, Bill served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany. He subsequently graduated from North Carolina State University. After college graduation, he began working in his family business, Cheviot Hills Golf Course, which he operated until his death. Bill was a life member of the PGA. He was a dedicated member of Bay Leaf Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Grounds Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Cecile Langley Edwards of the home; a son, William "Parker" Edwards II of Raleigh; a stepson, Jay Rackley and wife Becky of Apex; a step-daughter, Amanda Sarantos and husband Alex of Calypso; one grandchild, Alex Sarantos. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Dare Edwards. Other survivors include his aunt, Marie Allen of Louisburg; cousins, Felix and Lucy Allen and family of Louisburg, Lee and Susan Allen and family of Raleigh and Max Warner and family of Cary. He also leaves behind a host of dear friends too numerous to mention.

Bill was passionate about his Lord, his family and friends, his church, and Cheviot Hills Golf Course.

A memorial service and celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Bayleaf Baptist Church. A private burial will be held at a later time. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Bay Leaf Baptist Church or New Life Camp.
