ELLEN KING

Ellen Gooch King, 85, of 1108 Fourth Street, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 13, 2004 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mrs. King, widow of Herman King, was born in Granville County, North Carolina, to the late Walter Radford Gooch and Ava Pegram Gooch. Mrs. King was retired from General Electric Corporation with 31 years of service. For many years, she was a very active member of Jefferson United Methodist Church.

A celebration of Mrs. King's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. King is survived by her daughters, Nancy Hare Morris of Stanardsville, Va., and Lynda Hare Townsend of Scottsville, Va.; her son, William Michael Creech of Goldsboro; her sisters, Sallie Josephine Gooch Perry of Creedmoor and Mildred Ava Gooch Edwards of Toledo, Ohio; her sisters-in-law, Leona Hicks Gooch of Oxford, Rosa Lee Overton Gooch of Creedmoor and Elma H. Edmundson of Fremont; her brother-in-law, Lester Lavern Zelle of Waverly, Iowa. Mrs. King was blessed with eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three nephews, Robie B. Strickland of Anchorage, Alaska, Ben C. Strickland of Goldsboro, John C. Strickland of Goldsboro, and many other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. King was also preceded in death by her husbands, John P. Creech and Richard S. Hare; her brothers, Huey Pegram Gooch of Butner, Edward Gooch and John Ruffin Gooch of Creedmoor, and her sisters, Flora Byrd Gooch Mayes of Oxford and Virginia Frances Gooch Zelle of Waverly, Iowa.

Memorial donations may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church, 1100 N. Jefferson Ave., Goldsboro, NC 27530.

The family will receive friends Friday at Seymour Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. and other times at the residence.
