MURIEL R. BATTES

Muriel Rutledge Battes, 66, of 149 Forest Knolls Rd., died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A private service will be held.

Mrs. Battes was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Nov. 18, 1937, to the late Joe and LaVerne Brush Rutledge. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion.

Mrs. Battes is survived by one son, William Battes of Goldsboro; one daughter, Connie Wilson of Fountain Inn, S.C.; two brothers, George Rutledge and Homer Rutledge both of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Merilla Strader of Ruffin and Maureen Mazza of Enfield, Conn.; three grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, and Billy; and one great-grandson, Cliff.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Battes.

The family is being served by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
