Chamber waives late fee for parade entries

Participants of the 2016 Goldsboro Christmas parade are dressed in costumes and wave to the crowd. The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is waiving the late fee to encourage even more people to enter the parade.
The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is giving an early Christmas present to anyone who wanted to enter the Goldsboro Christmas Parade but missed the Nov. 7 deadline to enter without having to pay a late fee.
It is waiving the late entry fee to encourage even more entries for the parade.
Now through Nov. 27 you can enter a unit in the parade without having to pay the late fee, said Lara Landers, director of marketing and events for the Chamber.
The parade, which is sponsored by the Chamber, will step off at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.
For many years, the Jaycees took the lead for the annual event. Five years ago, the Chamber stepped up to carry the torch for the annual holiday event.
The application form is available on the Chamber website at www.waynecountychamber.com.
Entry fees are:
* Vehicle, dune buggy and float: $35 (nonprofit) and $50 (commercial).
* Motorcycles/ATVs/golf carts/bicycles: $10 per vehicle (nonprofit) and $15 per vehicle (commercial).
* Horses: $10 per horse (nonprofit) and $15 per horse (commercial).
* Walking: No charge (nonprofit) and $15 (commercial).
* Emergency vehicle: No charge for the first vehicle, and $20 for each additional one.
Payment must be made by check, money order or cash. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Mail the entry form with the appropriate fee to Goldsboro Christmas Parade, P.O. Box 1107 , Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.
Make checks or money orders payable to Wayne County Chamber.
Entries are limited to 40 feet of total length including vehicle and any trailer/float.
Bands must play Christmas music and floats must play Christmas music.
Position number, arrival times and locations and other information will be emailed to the address provided on the application. The information will be posted online at www.waynecountychamber.com on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
The parade route is slightly different this year. Instead of disbanding on Spruce Street, the parade will disband on Chestnut Street.
In the past the parade has enjoyed such a great turnout that units that were just beginning the march as the first ones were ending, Landers said.
Disbanding on Chestnut is an effort to avoid that congestion.
The parade route will start on the east side of South Center Street near the fire/police complex. It will follow Center Street north to Walnut Street where it will turn right.
It will follow Walnut Street for one block before turning left on John Street. It will follow John Street for one block before turning left on Mulberry to Center Street where it will turn right.
At the traffic circle the parade route will turn left on the west aide of Center Street and follow it to Chestnut Street where it will disband.

City ordinances prohibit the throwing or distributing candy or other items during the parade because of being a safety hazard.
Also because of city concerns bands and other entries are not allowed to stop to perform.
