Cliffs to host Halloween event

Looking for some ghoulishly good fun this Halloween?
Stop by Cliffs of the Neuse State Park Oct. 28 for its annual Halloween event.
Something new this year will be a haunted trail and haunted house, hosted by members of Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
It will feature a short walk on a spooky trail to the haunted house and back on a spooky trail.
"You're going to have different creatures jump out at you," said advance park ranger Eric Siratt. "Nobody's going to jump out and grab you or anything like that. But they are going to try to frighten you as you go through."
Siratt said the park's picnic shelter will be transformed into a haunted house.
There will also be a costume contest with $1 donation per person to enter.
"It's mainly for children," Siratt said. "But if adults want to dress up, too, that's OK."
Also during the Halloween event, people will decorate their personal vehicles and hand out candy from their trunks.
The Cliffs has about 15 vehicles signed up now, but is hoping to have about 20 or more.
"People decorate their vehicles and hand out candy to the children," Siratt said. "Those handing out candy can dress up, too, and even have spooky music at their vehicle. A lot do dress up. They might even have somebody jump out of the vehicle to try to scare you.
"They get real creative. It's almost like a little competition among those handing out candy. Some people go all out trying to make their car stand out from the others."
Anyone wanting to hand out candy from their car should call the Cliffs office at 919-778-6234 to sign up. They are asked to take enough candy for at least 200 trick-or-treaters.
The Cliffs Halloween event is free. The park is located off N.C. 111 South at 240 Park Entrance Road in Seven Springs.
