Spike's Tavern, 2006 N. William St.

Police are investigating a 45-year-old woman's death after she was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the parking lot of 2006 N. William St. early Sunday morning.

Many questions remain unanswered as the head of the Goldsboro Police Department Investigative Services Bureau, Maj. Anthony Carmon, said it is too early to tell if foul play is suspected or if it was a suicide.

"I can't say either way right now," Carmon said. "That's why we're investigating it. The body is due to go to the medical examiner for an autopsy, and we are still conducting interviews."

Carmon said investigators believe the woman, identified as Molly Carr Bridgers, of Pikeville, went to Spike's Tavern before the shooting happened.

"We believe that she went in the bar, or in the area right outside the bar, some time before the shooting," Carmon said.

Carmon said the bar was still open at the time the shooting happened, at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

He said a patron left the bar and found Bridgers on the ground outside of a car.

The car did not belong to her.

The patron then ran back inside the bar and called 911.

Carmon said the owner of the car Bridgers was found near was interviewed at the scene. He added that a follow-up interview with that person has been scheduled.

That person is not being considered a suspect, Carmon said.

Carmon said the car also did not belong to the man who found her lying on the ground.

A police report said Wayne County EMS took Bridgers to Wayne UNC Health Care, where she was pronounced dead.
