High temperatures in the low 90s combined with humid conditions today through Wednesday will continue to produce heat index values as high as 100 degrees.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop after 1 p.m. Wednesday ahead of a strong cold front moving into the region.

Some storms could become severe, with the greatest threat coming from damaging thunderstorm gusts and frequent lightning, according to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh.

Scattered showers are expected to continue into Thursday with a chance of thunderstorms Thursday night.

The rain will bring some relief with forecast highs around 83 degrees Thursday and Friday and 81 degrees on Saturday.
