Someone shot 25-year-old Joshua Deshawn Lofton in the chest while he stood in his driveway Saturday night at 500 Quail Drive.

He is now in serious but stable condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Investigative Services Bureau, said investigators aren't sure if Lofton was the intended target of the shot that struck him.

Carmon called the shooting a "drive-up," meaning someone drove up to Lofton, stopped, shot him in the chest and drove away.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white, four-door Ford.

Carmon said there are not yet any suspects in the shooting, but that neighbors in the area are being cooperative and giving police information to work with.

"They are cooperating," Carmon said. "Pretty good neighborhood cooperation, so we're treating those as investigative leads right now."

The same cannot be said about Lofton.

Carmon said he is not cooperating with police, and so they do not know if he was targeted.

"We can't talk to him to get any additional information, so I can't say one way or another yet" Carmon said.

Police got calls about shots being fired on Quail Drive around 10 p.m. Saturday.

They pulled up to the scene and searched for evidence of a shooting, but couldn't immediately find any.

Officers then saw a car speeding away from the area.

They followed it to Wayne UNC Health Care's emergency room entrance.

Police then learned then learned Lofton had been shot one time.

Lofton was stabilized at Wayne UNC Health Care before being taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he remains.

Carmon said police were able to return to the scene of the shooting and collect "evidence of gunshots."
