Central/Eastern Wayne Alumni to celebrate 45th homecoming

The Central/Eastern Wayne Alumni and Friends, Inc. will celebrate its 45th annual Homecoming May 26 through May 28 with the classes ending with "2" and "7" receiving special honor.
The weekend will kick off Friday with a banquet at the Goldsboro Event Center at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be LeRoy F. McDowell who was a member of the Central High School Class of 1967.
On Saturday, at 9 a.m. a dutch breakfast at Murray's will welcome alumni and friends alike with the annual parade beginning at noon in the Central Heights community.
Line-up for the parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Eastern Wayne Middle School. The parade will leave Eastern Wayne Middle School's campus.
Entry forms are available for anyone wishing to participate in the parade.
Following the parade is the annual Family Picnic also on the campus of Eastern Wayne Middle School.
The picnic will begin at 1 p.m., with food being served between 2 and 3 p.m. and games and activities for all ages.
Tickets for the picnic are $15. Organizers welcome vendors and tents with a set-up fee of $25 for individual tents.
The Black and White Ball will follow the Saturday event beginning at 9 p.m. at the Goldsboro Event Center with various classes competing for recognition. Music will be performed by Sweet & Nice, LJ the DJ and DJ Flood.
Tickets are $25 and donations for classes in competition must be received by Thursday, May 25.
The weekend will end with the group worship at Miller's Chapel AMEZ Church Sunday at 10 a.m. The Awards, Recognition and Scholarship Program will be held at Woods Chapel UAFWB Church at 5 p.m. with guest speakers Donnell Jackson Powell of the Class of 1962 and Cynthia Exum Kelly of the Class of 1977. The 2016 scholarship recipients and retirees will be honored as well.
