A business education teacher at Grantham School has been named Wayne County Public Schools' 2012-13 Career and Technical Education Middle School Teacher of the Year.

Kimberly Pigford-Parker has 21 years in education and currently teaches sixth, seventh and eighth grades in computer technology skills.

She is also adviser for the BETA Club, sponsoring many community events and taking her students to local and state competitions.

She was recognized at the recent school board meeting for her dedication at the school.

"(She) displays leadership at Grantham School by providing training on NCWise and supports her peers when they have problems completing required technology tasks," said board member Dr. D.B. Cannon, in making the presentation. "She supports the School Improvement Plan by implementing various activities to achieve the mission for her students, school and community. ...

"Her students are successfully engaged in many project-based learning experiences by evaluating the school and teacher websites, creating invitations by varying constituents regarding schoolwide events, developing fliers to be posted at local businesses or churches, as well as participating in career development research and project development activities."

Lisa Tart, principal at Grantham, also commended Mrs. Pigford-Parker for her contributions at the school.

"I have been told on many occasions by various parents that she has made a tremendous difference in their child's life and they appreciate her so much," she said.
