The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has arrested the man they say is responsible for a brutal assault April 30 in Dudley.

Jesse Earl Moore, 24, 295 Paradise Lane, is in custody and being held under a $25,000 secured bond for allegedly assaulting Jeremy James Lovelace, of Colonel Warrick Road, with a box cutter and hammer. The charge listed is assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

According to the incident report, Lovelace, 27, answered a knock at the door and was met by Moore wielding a box cutter.

Lovelace was cut below his right eye, but was able to reach a boat paddle and fend Moore off momentarily.

Moore then began to strike Lovelace in the head with a hammer. Witnesses were interviewed and followed up with, leading to Moore being identified as the assailant in the incident.

Lovelace was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and treated for the injuries he sustained. Photos were taken of those injuries to be used as evidence against Moore.

Investigators are continuing to look into the matter and said Monday that further arrests are pending.
