Construction workers from A.R. Chesson of Williamston work at the site of the new State Employees Credit Union on Wayne Memorial Drive early this morning. Tim Wester watches as other workers nail down sheets of plywood on the roof.

The State Employees Credit Union located at 2013 Wayne Memorial Drive will move into a new location farther north along Wayne Memorial Drive across from the hospital.

The expected completion date was Nov. 23, but the project has fallen behind schedule, and SECU officials hope to move their operations to the new location by the end of the year, said Sheree Millard, branch vice president.

Ms. Millard said the credit union leases the current building. She said the credit union will own the new office, which will offer more space inside and outside for parking.

"We have been here 10 years and we outgrew it nine years ago," Ms. Millard said.

The decision to move started five years ago when the branch began searching for the land for the new location.

Now that the construction contract has been awarded, Ms. Millard said she and the staff are anxious to get to the new site.
