Girl Scout cookie booths to open

Beginning Friday, Feb. 3, Girl Scouts throughout central and eastern North Carolina will offer all eight varieties of this year's cookies at booths each weekend through March 11.

To find a cookie booth near you, visit www.nccoastalpines.org and click on the Thin Mint in the lower left corner of the page.

Booths will be open in Wayne County in front of Pet Supplies Plus on Berkeley Boulevard and at Walmart on U.S. 70 West.

Here are some facts about this year's campaign:

*Cookie sale dates: Saturday, Jan. 7, through Sunday, March 11.

*Cookie booths are scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through March 11.

*New this year, when cookie booths kick off Super Bowl weekend, many customers will be able to use their credit card to buy cookies.

*Cost per box is $3.50.

*Eight cookie varieties will be available, including Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-A-Lot, Lemonades and Shout Outs!

*Note: Scouts in the Coastal Pines region will not be selling Savannah Smiles (a cookie that is offered by the other Girl Scout cookie bakery)

*Customers who don't want to purchase cookies for themselves, but want to support Girl Scouts, a troop, and our military troops can do so through Operation Cookie Drop.

*Girl Scout Troops will accept donations to Operation Cookie Drop at cookie booths.

*Now in its eighth year, customer donations have purchased more than 415,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies through Operation Cookie Drop.
