A driver allegedly jumped from his vehicle and ran from Goldsboro police early this morning, leading to his arrest and the seizure of 42 "ecstasy" pills from his vehicle, authorities said.

Adrane Lafette Swinson, 20, of West Pine Street, was jailed under a $250,000 bond after the incident, which took place around 1:20 a.m.

Swinson's passenger, Andre Monterio Todd, 21, of Foxcroft Drive, also was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I drug with intent to sell or deliver.

Officers reported they were on another call in the 900 block of North Audubon Avenue when they heard gunfire in the area.

Minutes later, they "heard a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed down Olivia Lane," according to a release.

Officer Phillip French found the vehicle shortly after at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Peachtree Street, authorities said.

When French attempted to stop the vehicle, Swinson allegedly jumped from it and ran until officers caught up with him in the 1700 block of Rose Street, police said.

The passenger, Todd, reportedly stayed in the vehicle as police chased the driver, according to city records.

Officer T.A. Christie arrested Todd, who was jailed under a $50,000 bond and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver MDMA, or "ecstasy," a Schedule I drug because it has a high potential for abuse and no approved medical use.

Swinson also reportedly had a concealed .40-caliber handgun, leading to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, police said.

He was also charged with two counts of resisting police, firing a weapon within city limits for the alleged incident near Olivia Lane, careless and reckless driving, driving with a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident.

Swinson was jailed under a $250,000 bond.
