Drivers were filling up early today at the Handy Mart on North Breazeale Avenue in Mount Olive during the snowstorm that swept across the county and most of the state. The National Weather Service later this morning dropped its winter storm warning for the central part of the state after several inches of snow fell as far east as Jones County. Heavier totals were recorded in the Piedmont and mountains, with up to 9 inches in Asheville. Forecasters were calling for a slight chance of rain or snow for Wayne this afternoon. Sunshine was predicted for Thursday.
