ROCKY MOUNT -- The Charles B. Aycock wrestling outfit, battling through an uneven start to its winter campaign, finished sixth out of 16 teams on Saturday at the Grant Wilder Memorial Tournament at Rocky Mount Senior High School.
Senior Austin Doyle (106), junior Devin Maldonado (113) and Zach Creel (145) each wrestled home hardware from the event.
Doyle and Creel are now both 13-1 on the season.
"Overall, the kids really stepped up against some stiff competition and competed well today," said CBA head coach Brian Doyle. "For the kids, they saw today how their hard work in the practice room pays off when the spotlight is on."
Junior Torrence Franklin (285) and T'Shon Swinson (152) both rallied to secure fourth-place finishes on the afternoon.
Other winning efforts included James Reser (170), Noah Overton (160) and Colby Perry (138). Freshman Kevin Dickenson (132) also won a pair of matches, while Vadden Gooding (126) emerged victorious in one match.
CBA will next see the mat on Wednesday, when it hosts a quad with North Pitt, North Lenoir and Greene Central.
The action is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
