TRACK AND FIELD: Local 3-A schools compete at conference championship

NEW BERN -- C.B. Aycock and Eastern Wayne both had good showings at the ECC 3-A/4-A Conference championships held at New Bern on Wednesday afternoon.

For the boys, EW placed third with 92 points while CBA gathered 91 points. Southern Wayne came in fifth with 62 points. CBA's Kamarion Graham placed first in both the 100-meter (10.74 -- school record) and the 200-meter (22.14). Trevor Holt swept the shot put (46 feet, 6 inches) and the discus throw (144 feet, 2 inches). Deshawn Owens was second in the 1600-meter (4:41) and Jarius Hinnant was second in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches).

The 4x2 relay team of Rico Dawson, Muhammad Brooks, Tahj Thacker, and Graham, took third place in a new school record 1:32.1, eclipsing the 1:32.6 mark set in 2010. The 4x8 team of John Parrish, David McIver, Keontai Taylor and Owens took third place (8:55.6). Elijah Bryant also placed third in discus (114 feet, 2 inches).

For the EW boys, Yeonte Royal grabbed first place in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches). Jaylan Graham placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.14). William Smith (44 feet, 9 inches)  placed second in the triple jump.

SW's Joshua McClain finished first in the 200-meter (23.24) and Jasavion Powell finished first in the 400-meter (54.34). Raekwan Hardy notched second in the 300-meter hurdles (48.44). The 4x2 relay team tallied second (1.31.70).

For girls, SW placed third with 95 points, CBA placed fourth with 92.5 points and Eastern placed fifth with 84 points. The Saints' 4x1 team took first place (50.04). Zaria Coleman won the discus (66 feet) while Alexus Elliot placed second (109 feet, 9 inches). Erykah Baldwin placed second in the long jump (16 feet, 9 inches).  O'Shaniya Melvin recorded second place in the 100-meter hurdles (18.04). Takeitha Glaspie placed second in both the 100-meter (12.64) and the 200-meter (25.74). Machiah Moore took second in the 400-meter (1:04.74).

CBA's Arlanda Faulkner won the 100 hurdles (16.1) and the long jump (17 feet, 1 inch). Cyerra Carter won the triple jump (35 feet, 0.5 inches.) Sarah Gregory placed second in the 800-meter (2:39.20) and Faulkner grabbed second in the 300-meter hurdles (49.74).

EW's Amari Brigman won both the discus (110 feet, 3 inches) and the shot put (35 feet, 2.5 inches). Tiayana Barnes finished second in the 200-meter (27.14), Channing Williams finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (55.24) and the Warriors' 4x100 relay team took second.
