NEW BERN -- New Bern pushed across the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning, and handed C.B. Aycock a 1-0 loss in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Wednesday evening.
The Golden Falcons had just three runners reach second base.
Chris Turner led CBA with two hits. Carson Smitherman batted 1-for-3, while Joey Hampton went 1-for-4.
"We're struggling swinging the sticks right now," Golden Falcons head coach Charles Davis said.
Cody Whaley started on the bump, allowed three hits and fanned five New Bern batters in a nine-inning stint. Jordan Gay appeared in relief and surrendered the game-ending run in 21/3 innings of work. He retired two Bears on strikeouts.
Aycock returns home today to face league-leading and unbeaten J.H. Rose. Game time is 5 p.m.
