MOUNT OLIVE -- Zach Mozingo slugged a first-inning home run and No. 1-ranked University of Mount Olive dusted Francis Marion (SC) University, 7-0, at Scarborough Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Mozingo finished with four RBI on the day.
Drew Ellis drew a 10-pitch walk and advanced to second after Jose Lopez also received a free pass. Mozingo, a senior transfer from East Carolina, lofted a two-strike pitch over the right-field wall to make it 3-0.
Ellis provided a third-inning RBI sac fly that scored Ricky Surum, and smashed his team-leading 11th home run in the sixth.
Braxton Shetley (3-3) held the Patriots to four hits and logged four strikeouts during a seven-inning stretch.
Ranked No. 3 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) top 25 poll, Mount Olive (29-5 overall) returns to action Friday for a Conference Carolinas series at Belmont Abbey.
