SOFTBALL: Cougars' Taylor hurls 5-hitter

Marcy Taylor threw a complete-game five-hitter and registered four strikeouts during Goldsboro's 23-4, mercy-rule thrashing of James Kenan.
Taylor allowed two earned runs.
Taylor Lane doubled and tripled, and drove in five runs during a 3-for-5 outing. Dakota Jones (RBI), Amber Pfennig (four RBI), Matti Rose Lyon (four RBI) and Grace Tart (two RBI) provided two hits apiece.
Riley Howell batted 1-for-3 with two RBI.
The Cougars stole 10 bases -- Howell (three), Jones (two), Keeley Carpenter (two), Diamond Hall, Addie Shirley and Tart.
Goldsboro opens its Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference season at home today against North Lenoir. Game time is 4 p.m.
