KINSTON -- Goldsboro launched its Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference campaign with a 6-3 conquest of Kinston on the Bill Fay Park Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars secured the outcome in doubles play.
Sam DeAraujo-Holden Jones, the top seed, slipped past the Vikings' Brett Howard-Will Sargent 8-6. Second-seeded Xan Pate-Aaron Podbielski dispatched Jared-Matthew Riddick 8-2.
Kinston took the No. 3 doubles point.
DeAraujo, Pate, Holden Jones and Podbielski each emerged victorious in straight-set fashion in singles play.
"I am proud of the way my boys played," Cougars head coach Steven Fine said. "Our number three singles player Caleb Whitted was out sick. The rest of the team rose to the challenge."
Goldsboro (3-1 overall) is the guest of Rosewood next Monday.
