Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 73, Wayne Country Day 68 -- Clutch play down the stretch propelled the Eagles to the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference tournament crown. MVP Jayden Young filed a 21-point evening for the Eagles, and was joined in the scorebook by all-tournament selections Jeremy Bentley and Addison Johnson, who each scored 19 points. Jayden Cooper paced WCDS with a game-high 31 points. Andrew Gattis chipped in 18, while Noah Atwood registered 14 points. All three players earned nods on the all-CPIC tournament squad.
Boys' basketball: East Wake 62, Goldsbooro Heat 50 -- Hayden Portela led Goldsboro with 12 points and four steals. Luke Parks contributed 11 points. Hayden Perry and Ben Daniels pulled down seven rebounds apiece. Goldsboro concluded the year 7-11 overall.
Boys' basketball: Greene Central 79, Goldsboro 60 -- Tyjuwan Barnes emerged as the Cougars' top scorer with 17 points. Jyreis McLean registered 12 points.
