Ninevah Reddick scored 21 points and led a balanced South Central attack past Eastern Wayne, 71-40, in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference varsity action on Friday night at New Hope.
The triumph moved the Falcons to 8-6 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
Trailing 14-13 after the opening eight minutes, South Central used its size to negotiate the final three periods, routinely scoring buckets in the paint and controlling the glass.
In addition to Reddick, the Falcons recorded double-figure scoring efforts from three other players -- Anna Mewborn (11), Brittany Tyson (11) and Kinnedy Lawrence (16). Lawrence, a junior forward, also snared seven rebounds.
Eastern Wayne was paced by sophomore guard Nyesha Best, who filed an 18-point evening. She was joined by Tammariah Smith, who scored eight points and grabbed seven boards.
"I'm not going to sugar coat it," EW head coach Michael Gurganus said. "It was a good old fashioned butt-whipping. They (SC) finished their shots and we didn't -- but we'll bounce back and be fine."
The setback moved the Warriors to 12-6 overall and 2-5 in league play. Their next challenge comes in the form of county foe Southern Wayne on Jan. 26 at Dudley.
