Behind a 22-point effort from Jala Holloman, Wayne Country Day cruised to a 51-12 victory over Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference rival Greenfield Friday night.

The Chargers led the match wire to wire.

After one quarter, WCDS leapt to a 15-2 lead and forced 11 turnovers. The lead ballooned to 35-6 by halftime.

"We we're rusty to start off with," said WCDS head coach David Flowers. "But we turned it around and started playing defense again. Offense looked a little rusty, but as hard as these girls play, that's okay. We're always going to bounce back. We're going to be fine."

Greenfield did not score more than four points in any of the four quarters.

The Chargers forced 33 turnovers.

Lexi Jeffreys added 11 points and 13 rebounds for WCDS. Other than Holloman and Jeffreys, seven additional Chargers recorded at least one basket.

With the win, WCDS moved to 13-7 overall and 5-0 in the CPIC.

Flowers said that he feels good about the team winning the conference, but added that the Chargers cannot afford to become complacent.

"We can't take anything lightly," Flowers said. "(We have) Wayne Christian next Friday and then Community Christian after that. Even though we beat them by 20 and 30, it doesn't matter. It's girls' basketball.

"The next game could be different. But if we come out and defend like we've been defending, I think we'll be okay."
