Eagles earn split
* ROCKY POINT -- Rosewood's Timothy Decatur remained unbeaten in 46 outings this season, and the Eagles split a non-conference tri-meet at Heide Trask on Thursday evening.
The Eagles lost 38-20 to Wilmington Laney and defeated the host Titans 52-20.
"Trask will probably be in the state dual tournament with us in a couple of weeks, while Laney is one of the front-runners with Cary to take the east 4-A (title) in dual team," RHS head coach Bill Edmundson said.
"This was a great matchup for us because Laney is extremely strong in the lower weights and very competitive top to bottom. This match will go a long way towards our self-reflection and evaluation before the state tournament."
Laney won the final six individual bouts and handed Rosewood just its third dual-team loss this season. The Eagles built a 21-20 lead behind Christian Decatur, Timothy Decatur, Chris Hill, Louis Tortual and Jayden Thomas.
"I don't think we've ever been in a match (like that). It was a dogfight. We needed this."
On the night, the Eagles logged eight pins, three decisions and three tech falls. They finished 14-14 overall in individual contested bouts.
The Decatur siblings, Hill, Tortual and Thomas each ended the night 2-0. Jordan Todd, Reid Amodeo, Seth Finney and Joey Behrend each emerged victorious against Trask.
