Hazardous road conditions caused by Winter Storm Helena forced Wayne County Public School officials to cancel school for today.
The decision affected two games on the docket -- Spring Creek basketball at North Duplin and South Central wrestling at Southern Wayne.
Heath Whitfield, SC athletics director, announced Monday morning that the Gators and Rebels will meet Jan. 19 in Calypso.
The South Central-SW match has already been rescheduled once this season. ADs from each school had only today open on their respective schedules.
"(The match) will have to be postponed to a future date," said David Lee, athletics director at Southern Wayne.
"It's getting late in the season, so we might have to get creative to get it in before the conference tournament."
Wayne Country Day athletics director Michael Taylor canceled all practices for today. He said the teams, weather permitting, will resume practice Tuesday -- two days before the boys' basketball squad plays host to Cape Fear Christian.
A total of six basketball games and two wrestling matches are scheduled for Tuesday, including the "Highway 70 Series" between longtime basketball rivals Kinston and Goldsboro.
The lone prep event slated for Wednesday is Rosewood's conference meet at Clinton.
