UMO women's soccer: Trojans' Clewis restocks shelves for 2016 season

MOUNT OLIVE -- University of Mount Olive head women's soccer coach Reid Clewis has signed 12 recruits -- seven freshmen and five transfers -- for the 2016-17 season.
Leading the freshman class are:
* Madison Pitambersignh won the State Cup with Onslow County Soccer Association during her junior year and won the State Cup with Triangle Futbol Club Alliance as a senior. Pitambersingh is a graduate of Croatan HS on North Carolina's Crystal Coast.
* Mary-Craig Elliott played forward/attacking midfielder and was team captain for the Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) Ladies Red squad. Elliott was home-schooled.
* A forward/wing back, Jacksonville HS grad Isabella Nunu was named all-state as a senior. She was part of the Region Camp with North Carolina ODP and was a Disney Showcase Finalist with the JASA Surge.
* Aimee Darrow, who attended Wilmington Hoggard HS, was a member of the Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Squad. She played holding midfielder and wing back for the Vikings.
* An all-region selection at Woods Charter School, Mackenzie Abbott played wing back and wing forward.
* Karson Solano knocked in 66 goals and dished out 31 assists during her prep career at Village Christian in Fayetteville.
* A product of Springfield (Ohio) HS and a member of the Pacesetter Soccer Club, Alayna Luce played attacking midfielder and wing forward.
Leading the transfers:
* Selena Montelongo is an attacking mid/wing forward transfer from Louisberg College. While at Louisburg College she was named to the all-Region X team. She was also a member of the FC Dallas Premier soccer club.
* Abigail Ross is a goalkeeper from Nashville. She is coming to UMO as a transfer from Louisburg College where she earned JUCO All-American honors.
* Morgan Abner is a holding mid/center back from Lawrenceberg, Ky. She comes to Mount Olive from the University of Pikeville.
* Kendall Blaine is an attacking mid/forward from Lumberton. She comes to Mount Olive from Louisburg College. She earned all-state honors while at Lumberton High School. She was also a member of the Athletic Club Sandhills.
* Vivian Fernandez is a holding mid/center back/wing back from Wilmington. She comes to Mount Olive from Cape Fear Community College. At Cape Fear, Fernandez earned all-region honors. She was also a member of the Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Soccer Club.
The Trojan women launch their 2016 season Sept. 2 at Peach Belt Conference member Georgia College.
Kickoff is 7 p.m.
