DURHAM -- Winston-Salem State has been selected to defend its Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association football championship, according to a preseason poll released Monday.
The Rams defeated Bowie State (Md.) in the 2015 CIAA title game and lost to Assumption College in opening-round play of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
A total of 10 all-conference selections on offense and defense combined return this season. WSSU is projected to win the North Division, while Bowie State is the South favorite.
The division winners meet Nov. 12 in the nationally-televised CIAA championship contest at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
