* WILSON -- Eastern Wayne had three of its four qualifiers advance to quarterfinal-round play in the 2016 N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A eastern regionals.
Dylan March claimed a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Northern Nash's Oliver Adcox in their opening-round singles match. March dropped a 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 decision to third-seeded Sunny Sandhu of Wilson Fike after rain suspended play on Friday.
"(A) great match where a few points decided the final outcome," EW head coach Craig Hassell said. "(I'm) proud of Dylan's effort as he came up just short of qualifying for the state tournament next weekend in Burlington. (He) has three more years to refine his game, so this was an incredible experience and I look forward to him to return even stronger next year."
Ian Burchett fell in the first round to Northern's X'Zavier McDaniel.
The Warriors' tandem of Le Solomon-Gray Sasser stopped West Brunswick's Kevin Gore-Taylor Mayo 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. Their regional journey ended with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to the second-seeded duo of Tyler Brice-George Shannon from Rocky Mount.
Sasser filled in for Ethan Quinn, who could not participate in the regional due to an AP exam.
"Le and Gray competed well in their last regionals as seniors and have contributed much to this season's success."
Gray has received an appointment to attend Army West Point.
Charles B. Aycock's doubles of Matt Hare-Nick Coston stumbled 6-3, 6-4 against Hunt's pair of Jacob Saunders-Jess Merrick in the first round.
Eastern Wayne returns to action Tuesday afternoon at perennial powerhouse Chapel Hill in the 2016 NCHSAA dual-team playoffs.
