MERRY HILL -- Wayne Country Day played error-free defense and John Strickland tossed a complete game during a 6-2, non-conference triumph over perennial independent 1-A power Lawrence Academy on Friday afternoon.
Strickland yielded two earned runs on six hits, walked seven and struck out three Warriors during the seven-inning affair. At the plate, Strickland collected two hits -- including a double -- and drove in a run.
"(John) worked in and out of james all night, but did a great job keeping it together," WCDS head coach Michael Taylor said. "Our defense was great tonight, too. We turned two double plays. Mitch Turnage played his best game of the year on defense."
Amane Godo (RBI) and Parker Smith each had two hits. Jacob Magera (RBI) and Drew Barnes each recorded one hit. Case Kermode posted an RBI.
"We are starting to become more relaxed at the plate," Taylor said.
The Chargers (8-4-1 overall) visit Halifax Academy next Tuesday.
