HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Devonte Corum's lead-off double in the eighth inning sparked an offensive uprising and lifted Eastern Wayne past D.H. Conley, 3-0, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference affair.
Corum stayed at second as the Vikings' pitching staff intentionally walked University of Charlotte signee Zack Smith. Lee Daniels moved the runners into scoring position with a groundout.
Tanner Wells followed with a bases-clearing triple to make it 2-0. The Warriors tallied their third run on a passed ball.
Wells limited Conley to three hits and logged five strikeouts in a seven-inning stint. Smith earned the save after he retired the Vikings in order in the bottom of the eighth.
Carlyle Smith emerged EW's offensive leader with three hits.
"It was a good ballgame, both teams played well," Warriors head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "It was a team win. We really played solid and you especially want that on the road."
Eastern Wayne (10-3 overall, 3-1 ECC) entertains Southern Wayne on Friday evening.
