MOUNT OLIVE -- Joe Koehler and Stephen Wallace swatted back-to-back home runs as University of Mount Olive defeated No. 4-ranked Franklin Pierce, 7-5, at Scarborough Field on Tuesday evening.
Koehler collected his solo HR in the third inning. Wallace went yard in the same inning.
Lang's bases-clearing triple into the right-field corner helped the Trojans build a late-inning, 7-3 lead. Franklin Pierce threatened late, but couldn't complete the comeback and endured just its second loss in 14 outings this season.
Koehler batted 2-for-5 with an RBI. David Mayo provided two hits. Brett Lang (two RBI), Zak Orrison, Bradley Ragan, Wallace, Jack Sherrill (RBI) and Derek Deler each had one hit.
Lang collected a stolen base.
Josh Flott claimed the mound win for UMO. He yielded four earned runs on three hits and five walks. Trey Pate appeared in middle relief before Austin Hutchison earned his first save with two innings of three-strikeout relief.
The Trojans (10-10 overall) entertain second-year Conference Carolinas member Southern Wesleyan for a three-game series this weekend. The teams will play a single game Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
