Tar Heels make Pirates walk the plank

GREENVILLE -- No. 6-ranked North Carolina erupted for eight runs in the second inning and dominated No. 17-ranked East Carolina, 17-4, at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Reliever Spencer Trayner picked up the win for the Tar Heels, who improved to 17-2 overall this season. Brian Miller paced the offense with three hits and two RBI. Adam Pate, a Charles B. Aycock alum, batted 2-for-4 and drove in four runs.
Tyler Ramirez contributed three runs and three RBI.
The Pirates (11-6) used eight pitchers, including Eastern Wayne grad Zack Mozingo. He allowed one earned run, struck out one and walked a UNC batter during 2/3 of an inning on the bump.
Starter Evan Voliva took the loss.
Charlie Yorgen paced the ECU offense with three hits. Kirk Morgan posted two hits and two RBI. Eric Tyler batted 2-for-4 with an RBI.
ECU returns home Friday for a three-game weekend series against Monmouth University.
