* Softball: Cape Fear Christian 10, Wayne Christian 3 -- Brianna Verme paced Wayne Christian's offense with two hits and endured the loss inside the pitcher's circle. Officials halted the game in the fourth inning due to darkness. The teams meet again Thursday.
* Girls' soccer: Wayne Country Day 2, Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 0 -- Langley Barnes provided both goals during the Chargers' non-conference win on Monday.
Middle schools
* Softball: Wayne Christian 15, Cape Fear Christian 10 -- Abbe Harris, Brianna Verme, Elizabeth Howell and Abi Harrelson pounded out two hits apiece for the Eagles. Leah Boswell connected on an inside-the-park home run. Verme claimed the mound win. Wayne Christian (2-2 overall) entertains Lee Christian on Thursday.
* Girls' soccer: Norwayne 10, Spring Creek -- Haley Martin registered the hat trick (three goals) during the Cobras' win on the Wayne County Middle Schools Athletic Conference scene Monday afternoon. Colleen Jones provided two goals and two assists. Brianna Casey supplied two goals. Lydia Butler, Kayla Spier and Tanner Griffin each had one goal. Morgan Quinn dished out an assist. NW keeper Katie Parrish logged two saves between the pipes. Norwayne (3-0-0 overall) plays host to Rosewood on Thursday.
