MOUNT OLIVE -- Kian Hollevoet delivered the match-clinching kill after two outstanding defensive plays during the University of Mount Olive's 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 triumph over Conference Carolinas men's volleyball rival Pfeiffer University on Thursday evening.
Peyton Schirman posted a team-high 12 kills and collected 11 digs for his first-ever collegiate double-double. He also served two aces and logged two blocks. Hollevoet notched four of his 10 kills on UMO's final five points of the match.
Jeff Yasalonis passed out 34 assists.
Down 21-20 in the third set, Hollevoet sandwiched a pair of kills around a kill by the Falcons' Jonathan Martinez. Hollovoet broke the 22-22 tie with another kill and a Falcon service error gave UMO match point at 24-22.
Hollevoet served and prevented a Pfeiffer kill with a dig on the right side, but the save led to a transition-ball opportunity for the Falcons. Poole got a hand on the next ball, Yasalonis set the ball to Hollovoet, who nailed the match-clinching shot off the back row to seal the win.
UMO recorded a .378 hitting percentage against Pfeiffer, which lost just its second league match of the season.
Mount Olive (5-3 overall, 4-2 CC) entertains Lees-McRae today and continues its stretch of four consecutive games at home Saturday against King (Tenn.) University.
