Goldsboro's boys just might get their wish.

They're on a collision course to face nemesis and four-time defending state 2-A champion Kinston in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.

But first things first.

The 10th-seeded Cougars (22-3 overall) must get past West Bladen on Tuesday evening, while the seventh-seeded Vikings (20-5) must get past Warren County.

Goldsboro senior guard Myron Carmon says he and his teammates "are ready" should the rematch take place in K-town on Thursday.

Starting times have not been announced. The Association recommends a 6 p.m. tip-off for sites that will play host to a doubleheader, and a 7 p.m. start for a single game.

However, school officials can discuss moving the time -- upon approval -- based on travel.

Overall, nine teams from the News-Argus readership area qualified for postseason play. Eastern Wayne, Goldsboro and Rosewood are each sending two teams.

The Warriors will play two home games Tuesday. EW's girls, an eastern regional semifinalist last season, take on Northeast Guilford. Naheria Hamilton holds the single-season school record for double-doubles (22) and ranks No. 2 among the state's all-time shot blockers.

Eastern Wayne's boys entertain Northern Vance.

Rosewood's boys (11-13) travel to James Kenan, which emerged as the Carolina 1-A Conference tournament champ Friday evening. The Tigers have defeated the Eagles three times this season.

Charles B. Aycock is the 32nd seed among the 3-A boys' teams and is the guest of Eastern Alamance. David Elmore, a CBA alumnus, is the fourth head coach to take the Golden Falcons to the playoffs in the past two decades. He joins Charles Smith, David West and Steve Moats.

Goldsboro's girls entertain North Brunswick.

Southern Wayne (8-15) visits top-seeded Fayetteville Terry Sanford. Senior guard Zaria Atkins, who has signed with Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne University, averages 21 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Three-time defending Carolina 1-A champion Rosewood, the eastern regional runner-up each of the past two seasons, drew the No. 4 seed and a first-round date against Lejeune.

Spring Creek (12-13) heads to East Carteret. The Gators are making just their third postseason appearance in school history and first since 2010 when SC -- then led by 1,000-point scorer Melanique DeVeaux -- lost its playoff opener at the N.C. School of Science and Math.
