GREENVILLE -- Clemson signee Cornell Powell provided a first-period offensive spark and J.H. Rose rolled past Charles B. Aycock, 73-43, in semifinal-round play of the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference tournament.
Rose faces South Central in the title game tonight.
The Rampants led 4-2 at the 5-minute mark when Powell scored two quick baskets, and dished off to a teammate in transition. Rose led 13-2 after one quarter and extended its margin to 38-20 by halftime.
Aycock forced defensive stops on four of the Rampants' first six possessions to start the third quarter. The Golden Falcons pulled to within eight points, but could get no closer.
Ian Best emerged as the lone CBA scorer in double figures with 23 points. Cameron Kornegay dropped in six points, followed by Elijah Bryant with five.
