* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 70, Freedom Christian Academy 59 -- Marcus Metcalf scored 26 points as the Chargers advanced to the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference tournament championship game. Cooper Edmondson posted a double-double -- 14 points, 11 rebounds. Jack Talton contributed 12 points. WCDS (18-6) meets Greenfield in the title game Saturday. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
* Boys' basketball: Spring Creek 53, North Duplin 39 -- Allen Hickman paced the Gators' offense with 15 points. Xavion Garcia chipped in 11 points.
* Boys' basketball: Eastern Wayne 38, C.B. Aycock 35 -- Sophomore Tyquan Hampton sparked the Golden Falcons' offense with 11 points. Muhammad Brooks and Amir Fuller contributed six and five points, respectively. The Warriors managed just five first-half points.
* Girls' basketball: Eastern Wayne 25, C.B. Aycock 20 -- Freshman Kania Slocum recorded eight points in the Golden Falcons' regular-season finale. Freshman Taylor Gay (five pionts), sophomore Darilyn Lancaster (four points), freshman Morgan Casey (two points) and freshman Heaven Tatum (one point) also scratched in the scoring column.
Middle schools
* Girls' basketball: Spring Creek 33, Eastern Wayne 25 -- Virginia Edmondson emerged as the Gators' top scorer with 18 points, and ended the season with 118 points overall. SC ended the year 9-4 overall.
