SOFTBALL: UMO drops pair of 1-0 decisions to Francis Marion

MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive-Le Moyne baseball series, scheduled for this weekend, has been canceled due to severe cold weather.
The three-game series will not be rescheduled.
The Trojans (3-1 overall) return to action at home Feb. 20 against Florida Southern.
Men's volleyball
MOUNT OLIVE -- According to the University of Mount Olive website, the Trojan men's home match against Conference Carolinas in-state rival Belmont Abbey remains on schedule.
First serve is 7 p.m.
Softball
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Francis Marion picked up a pair of 1-0 non-conference victories over softball region foe University of Mount Olive on a bitterly-cold Wednesday afternoon.
Taylor Brunson knocked in FMU's lone run in the opener. Brunson's double to left-center field in the sixth inning accounted for the Patriots' single run in the nightcap.
Maddie Johnson (1-2) endured the pitching loss for UMO in game one. She surrendered an unearned run on six hits and fanned two FMU batters.
Caitlin Ewers (0-2) suffered the mound loss in game two. She gave up four hits and posted one strikeout in a six-inning stint.
The Trojans (2-4 overall) launch the home portion of their schedule Tuesday against in-state region foe Wingate University. The twinbill begins at 2 p.m. at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field.
