Chargers, Eagles battle in Family Y pool

Wayne Country Day placed second overall with 78 points during the boys' team portion of an independent schools meet contested at B.G. Darden Natatorium inside the Goldsboro Family Y on Monday.
The Chargers' foursome of Charlie Dees, Nathan Rigdon, Zan Pittman and Daniel Covert emerged victorious in the 200-yard free relay in 1 minute, 52.37 seconds. The same foursome touched the wall second during the 200-yard individual medley (IM) relay.
Pittman and Rigdon finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 IM. Pittman took second in the 100 backstroke (1:04.59). Rigdon claimed second in the 100-yard breastroke (1:21.25), while teammate Chris Skinner was fifth in 1:40.15.
Covert placed 13th in the 50 free (29.30). Dees ended up third in the 100 free (1:03.19).
Wayne Christian's Stephen Whitfield secured 12th in the 50 free.
On the girls' side, Wayne Christian's tandem of Anna Rendall (30.82) and Grace Buddin (32.26) seized second and seventh place, respectively, in the 50 free. Rendall won the 100 back in 1:22.8.
Buddin, Rendall, Paige Court and Audrey Worrell comprised the 200 free relay that grabbed fourth in 2:26.65.
WCDS standout Abby Skinner posted top-eight times in the 100 free (1:14.3) and 100 back (1:26.57).
