University of Mount Olive signee Lindsey Burton has been selected to participate in the inaugural Tarheel Cup, which recognizes the most stellar female and male golfers in North Carolina who will graduate this year.

Burton is a senior at Rosewood and emerged as the N.C. High School Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A east regional champion last fall. She placed fifth overall in the two-day, season-ending state tournament -- the highest finish by any female golfer in school history.

Burton also made four consecutive appearances in the state finals.

The 36-hole tournament, scheduled for May 21-22, will be contested at the picturesque Cramer Mountain Country Club in Gastonia. The top six golfers from the East and the top six from the West will compete in a Ryder Cup format.

The Tarheel Cup was established by the NCHSAA and the N.C. High School Golf Coaches Association.
