RALEIGH -- Eastern Wayne assistant baseball coach James "Rabbit" Fulghum is among the 53rd class slated for enshrinement in the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
Fulghum, whose career spans five decades, will join Rod Brind'Amour, Eric "Sleepy" Floyd, David Fox, Antawn Jamison, Haywood Jeffires, Freddy Johnson, Ray Price and Susan Yow. The ceremony is scheduled for May 6 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Known for his competitive teams on every level, Fulghum won five N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 2-A state championships at Greene Central. He guided the Snow Hill Post 94 Senior American Legion program to several Area I East and Area I championships, and took numerous teams to the state tournament.
Fulghum is also enshrined in the N.C. Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and the NCHSAA Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton).
"The achievements of this year's class of inductees enrich North Carolina's remarkable sports heritage, and they certainly earned the honor of joining 319 men and women who have been previously enshrined," said Fredrick Reese, N.C. Sports Hall of Fame president.
"We look forward to celebrating this special time in our state's sports history."
The N.C. Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1963. The permanent exhibit, North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, is located on the third floor of the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. The Hall features significant artifcats and memorabilia donated by inductees.
Ticket information for the banquet is available at ncsportshalloffame.org or by calling 919-845-3455.
