* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 62, Freedom Christian 45 -- Marcus Metcalf drilled in a team- and game-high 33 points during the Chargers' road win. Nick Fletcher added 13 points. Wayne Country Day (11-2 overall) travels to Pope John Paul this afternoon.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 40, Freedom Christian 38 (OT) -- Tanner Willman paced a balanced offensive attack with 13 points as the Chargers opened their Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A Conference season. Joey Democko dropped in 10 points, while Nehemiya Shaw collected nine points. WCDS (2-6 overall, 1-0 CPIC) entertained Parrott Academy on Wednesday.
