STANHOPE -- Rosewood claimed two dual-team victories during the annual Thomas Cowles Firebird Duals contested Saturday at Southern Nash.
The Eagles knocked off perennial Big East 3-A powerhouse Rocky Mount (45-30) and cruised past Fuquay-Varina (60-21). Rosewood fell to Southern Nash (34-31), Middle Creek (45-32) and Millbrook(42-30).
"It's been a long time since we lost three duals in one day," Eagles head coach Bill Edmundson said. "But with the personnel we had and being in a position to win close matches, I will take it. The losses force you to re-evaluate and question everything. This can be a good thing."
Four RHS grapplers concluded the day 5-0 -- Chris Hill, freshman Jordan Todd (34-4 overall), Jayden Thomas and heavyweight Kaleb Taylor.
Blake Dean posted a 4-0 worksheet. Freshman Timothy Decatur-Luker wound up 4-1.
Rosewood (27-5 overall) returns home Friday for a non-conference tri-meet against Manteo and Wilson Fike. The Eagles play host to the Carolina/Two Rivers 1-A Conference duals on Saturday with the winner earning the No. 1 seed for the season-ending N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A dual-team playoffs.
